The Artist: Georges Robert
Trebor, as he signs his artworks is a play-on words with his surname. He is an Ottawa born Canadian artist and a recent arrival to the visual art exhibition scene when he started to show his paintings to the public in August 2017. At his first exhibition and to his total surprise all his paintings were sold out within a matter of hours. With all the comments and enthusiasm created by his paintings, he decided to become a professional artist and to continue exploring his very unique art style.
Trebor bases his immense success on taking earlier period art movements that he merges onto canvas and applies his innovative techniques to produce very distinctive paintings. In his studios, he is endlessly experimenting to create new methods to improve his art style called “Colorist Art” by his local peers and followers. Trebor is regard as a prolific painter completing over 375+ colourist art paintings and another 100+ abstract and rupestral artworks during the past nine years selling over 80% to collectors, the public and his entourage.
In June 2019, Trebor opened his first solo art gallery in Gatineau Quebec which he closed within a year due to the pandemic crise. In September 2022, he reopened his art gallery but relocated it on the prestigious Sussex Drive, in Canada’s capital city Ottawa and only a few hundred feet from the National Gallery of Canada. Trebor will be closing his gallery at the end of 2024 and relocating to his oversized studio so that he may devout all his time to painting.
Today, all Trebor paintings are now sold exclusively through this website and a selection of art galleries in Canada and the United States.
“...Trebor’s artworks are about as stylish as art can get where this innovative artist uses out-of-the-box painting techniques and ...how he moves light around in absolutely stunning ways making his paintings totally fashionable to own. To date I have purchased over a dozen paintings, and I will be buying more in the coming months."

What is Colourist Art?Over the past 150 years, the art world has had a history of painters and art movements that have pushed forward the limits of artistic techniques and created new artistic styles. Impressionism, fauvism, symbolism, cubism, to name a few... and now "Colourist Art" has moved these boundaries even further. "My Colourist Art form, at once, catches the attention as being an innovative art style due to my never-before-seen painting techniques, my use of colour where I will exaggerate or use an unexpected colour rather than what mother earth wants me to see or my unique employment of light diffusion to create exceptional depth and dimension." ...Trebor "My distinctive art form is unlike any other and it truly stands out by itself in the contemporary art world. Being its originator and considered as an experimental artist, I continuously strive to develop newer painting techniques and to express my emotional state and inner responses to a scene before me through light manipulation and the use of vibrant, flamboyant colours."…Trebor

What makes a Trebor Art Painting so unique?Contrary to most contemporary visual artists, Trebor blends together oil paints and other oil based mixed media paints in a unique approach to create never before seen visual effects within a painting. Exploiting these paint mixtures to there fullest, he has developed distinctive techniques that enhances colour brilliance to new levels that produce never before seen depth and dimension in a painting drawing only on the rooms ambient light. To create these unique painting techniques Trebor exploits to his advantage the basic physical principles of light and visual optics: “Colour tones are varying wavelengths that we translate into colour.” and “Light is either reflected, refracted, absorbed or a combination of these when it come upon any surface.” Reflection occurs when light meets a surface and is bounced back or reflected, in varying intensities, to be captured by the viewer’s eyes. Trebor employs this principle to create unbelievable visual effects by contrasting the sheen or gloss values within distinct locations in his paintings. These varying intensities of “reflected light” are then captured by the viewers eyes, that then translates the painting’s scene as having incredible depth and dimension. Refraction takes place when a part of the light changes direction when it meets an uneven surface resulting in about 10 to 15% of this light to be refracted and lost to the viewer. Trebor applies this principle to create paintings that vibrate with stunning and powerful colours by minimizing the “refracted rate” of light lost to its absolute minimum. He achieves this by always creating smooth painted surfaces where nearly all of the light is refracted to the viewer’s eyes for them to view paintings that are exploding with colour and vibrancy. Absorption happens when a part of the light is neither reflected nor refracted but absorbed by the surface it meets. Trebor exploit’s this principle by adding paint additives to his mixtures to control the surface’s “absorption level.” Depending upon the level of absorption created by the artist, at very precise locations, these modified paints will create never before seen brightness variations within an artwork. Like the post- impressionist painters of over a century ago such as Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Cézanne, Trebor has moved the yardsticks forward in regard to the usage of colour and the manipulation of light by an artist and has created his own art revolution with “Colourist Art.” In conclusion, Trebor is the creator of a new and exciting art style, expanding the utilisation of the principles of light and optics within a painting. By exploiting these two rules he has revolutionizes the way viewers like you will view and appreciate art.

About my 6th sense for colour...Before you ask yourself the question, the answer is… "YES... I have a sixth sense for colour!” "...I have a thing about lighting-up assorted colours to enhance or distort them. I enjoy discovering them... over and over again, to understand them, dissect them and intensify them. I like how colour reveal’s my passion or indifference, my awareness or unawareness, the perfect or the not-so-perfect in myself, the natural or the hypocritical." My colorist paintings are always a journey... trials, errors, construction, reconstructions of style and a resurgence of my emotions on canvas. In essence... I go all-out to create art that will have a momentous impact internally and externally on the viewer and draw their attention to my unprecedented ways of treating colour and light diffusion.”
