The inspiration for this painting is this little-known lake located in the regional municipality of "La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau", in the Outaouais region in Québec is about 70 kilometers north of Ottawa. Tranquille Lake is only accessible by a short twenty-minute hike to its shores. 
 
The mountains in the fore ground of the painting are not as imposing as the actual ones surrounding the lake however, the existing mountains break the wind making the lake's surface so serene and its remoteness so peaceful.
